The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence.

This is beginning to look like a five-state election. Those states are Virginia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Nevada. Essentially all relevant electoral scenarios involve some combination of these five states.

On the flip side, here’s the stomache-roiling stuff–and you may say just for Democrats, but NO ONE should have to be standing in these kinds of lines, and no one of any party affiliation should be happy about it. What the hell is going on in these states?
