Wherein much hilarity ensues. Really, this commentary can stand in for so much absurd copy from the catalog universe. One need not have slaved over copy (whether as writer, editor, or proofreader) to appreciate this, but it does make the journey ever so much more delectible. Bon appetit! One of my faves:
Item #02-9691155 Found Grain Sack Stocking
Williams-Sonoma says: “NEW & EXCLUSIVE. Crafted from 70-year-old Hungarian grain sacks made of burlap and linen. Made in Hungary.”
Price:$39.95
Notes from Drew: You want me to pay 40 bucks for an old sack? OH BUT IT’S HUNGARIAN. They’re known for their sacks!
I keep wondering what was found. The grain from which the stocking was made? The grain stocking? Were there a bunch of grain stockings lying around that were scooped up and shipped to W-S?
(One thing I must call Drew out on is his Christmas cracker mockery. Because although they can be had for cheaper elsewhere, they’re not at insane cost here, and he seems to not realize that the British custom (still habit in many a former colony as well) of Xmas crackers is still celebrated regardless of class. Not a rich people’s thing at all. Some modest silliness with paper crowns, jokes, and puzzles. But we’ll let that bit of American ignorance by and enjoy the rest.)

Hard to tell if this is going to be a groaner or hilarious, but even if it’s a groaner overall, there are sure to be some damn funny moments given the cast– Amanda Tapping (be still my heart), Billy Boyd, Kristin Kreuk, and Robin Dunne. Just the way Amanda says “Great, Anton” in the trailer keeps cracking me up. Given that she founded a comedy troupe in the ’90s, I can’t wait to see her let it rip on the big screen with more silliness than Stargate ever allowed. Long time no sci-fi spoof, so we’re overdue. For a film that’s supposedly releasing this summer, there’s weirdly little information to be found on the interwebs, even on the official website.
